Doug Bilmaier
In class, we were studying the representation of people by appearance. We looked at what people stereotype and what they think of a character at their first impression. We also went into a bit of depth and looked at what might they have experienced. Our stimulus was this man:
The notes I wrote at my first impression of this man were:
"This man looks homeless. He has a beard which looks unkept and has rips in his trousuers that are mended by patches of unexpensive looking material. He looks as though he'd have a deep, gravelly voice. I think he may have experienced some bad things in his life, such as drug problems, or maybe alcohol issues and he is stood still in a busy street, looking like he has nowhere to go and nothing to do. His clothes are his only possession".
Well, as it turns out, i couldn't have been more wrong if i tried. This man's name is Doug Bilmaier and is the head of the vintage department at Ralph Lauren. Doug's job is to travel the world searching for inspiration and decorations of the vintage department. He is actually a very well off man and has done vewry well in his life. It just goes to show that stereotypes and first impressions are heavily relied upon in films and programs etc. Here is another picture of him, but this time, it's a little more obvious he's not homeless:

Preliminary Magazine Mock
In class, we had to create a magazine front cover and contents page mock. It had to be hand drawn which could be later be made up on photoshop. This could be any sort of magazine, so long as it was aimed at students and people who attend college. I decided to go for a general magazine; giving students advice, gossip and interviews with different people from all over the college. Here's What i came up with:
After i had finished my hand drawn version of this covers, i decided to create them in photoshop, there are a few changes, which i thought made the magazine look a bit more eye catching such as making the background black and changing the contents page picture as i could not find a suitable picture and i was not willing to smash one of my guitars.
